Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) Acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Narrm, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present, and to Elders of all First Nations communities that visit MCEC.

An IKON-ic Partnership

Appointing IKON Services as our sole cleaning and waste management provider is a monumental move toward winning the war on waste.

As part of our ongoing commitment to lowering our environmental impact, MCEC has appointed IKON Services Australia as the sole cleaning and waste management provider within all our licensed areas, effective from 1 March 2022. This is a huge step toward achieving the goals set out in our industry-leading five-year sustainability strategy , which include diverting 90% of waste from landfill and achieving zero organic waste to landfill by 2025.

In addition to these goals, we have committed to the Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia’s (EEAA) Sustainability Program, an industry-wide plan to reduce the environmental impact of events.

By appointing a sole cleaning and waste management provider we will now be able to effectively compile, analyse and action waste management data for our licensed areas, and design policies and procedures that ensure we are maintaining our commitment to lowering our environmental impact while continuing to provide an exceptional customer experience.

Replacing the outdated panel selection process with the appointment of a sole service provider offers several potential benefits to our customers, including:

  • Potential cost savings due to economy of scale and an improved service relationship.

  • Complete confidence that industry, EEAA and legislative standards are being met without the need to carry out independent auditing and due diligence.

  • Access to detailed and accurate waste management reports specific to individual events. These can be used to highlight and share positive outcomes and identify areas for improvement.

Before making this appointment MCEC undertook a comprehensive review and consultation process to determine the best provider for the job. We found that when given a choice of cleaning and waste management services providers, the majority of our customers were already choosing to engage IKON.

IKON is also contracted to provide cleaning and waste management to the entire venue, giving them a unique ability to provide streamlined services and comprehensive data reporting, create economies of scale and maintain consistently high standards of performance and customer service. Our ongoing relationship with IKON has shown them to be reliable, transparent and customer-focused, with a strong commitment to innovation and industry best practice.
