Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) Acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Narrm, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present, and to Elders of all First Nations communities that visit MCEC.

Inclusion and diversity

We are committed to inclusion and diversity. It's our road to achieving equality in the workplace: treating everyone equally and providing fair opportunities without prejudice. This helps us access a variety of ideas and perspectives that lead to more creative and effective problem-solving. It’s essential for innovation. But inclusion, diversity and equality aren't just good for business. They're essential for building a better, more equitable world. And that’s what matters most.

Our values

Our values are at the heart of everything we do. They guide our actions, decisions, and the way we connect to help everyone feel like they belong.

One team - Success comes from working and celebrating together.

Own it, do it well - Do your best and get better every time.

Respect - Respect each other and our customers.

Our beliefs

Inclusion, equity and diversity are central to everything we do. These beliefs are embedded in our company culture and goals.

We create psychologically and culturally safe spaces and use our beliefs as a shared language. They're some ways we tackle inequity and drive inclusivity every day.

Data and insights drive our actions - not assumptions. And we keep our inclusivity action plans accountable with regular check-ins.

Our commitment

  • We aim to create a diverse and inclusive environment for all. We know where we need to improve and will continue to learn and make changes as needed.

Our business is made up of a mix of women and men, with less than 1% identifying as another gender. Our goal is to achieve gender equality in the workplace, though we know this is complex. We're starting by implementing our Gender Equality Action Plan (GEAP).

Delivering our 2022–2025 Gender Equality Action Plan (GEAP)

Our GEAP has three main areas of focus.

    1. Workplace representation

We want to make sure everyone has equal access to power, resources, and opportunities. So, we're focussing on:

    • Improving diversity

    • Getting more women in leadership positions

    • Gathering data on discrimination

    • And making sure everyone is paid fairly.

    2. Workplace culture

We want a workplace where everyone is treated with respect and there's no room for sexism, discrimination, bullying or harassment. So, we're working on:

    • Making our culture more inclusive

    • Training people on gender equality

    • Creating a safe and respectful environment

    • And getting employee feedback, which informs change.

    3. Workplace experience, policies and practices

We want MCEC to be accessible and fair for everyone. So, we're putting efforts into:

    • Making our workplace more accessible

    • Updating our policies

    • And making sure our business practices promote gender equality.

Our goal is always to make progress, but we know our priorities may change as we gather more data and insights.

  • Develop and deliver a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)

Reconciliation is about building stronger relationships with First Nations communities for everyone's benefit.

We'll work together to create a meaningful RAP that puts respect, relationships and opportunities front and centre. This way, we can take real action and make a real impact for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our goal is to help increase economic equity and self-determination.

We know we've got some work to do, and we're committed to delivering impactful and strong outcomes as we continue our RAP Journey in 2024.

  • Grow our community investment to support more First Nations and Sustainability partners

Each year, we support community and not-for-profit organisations. We give nearly $2 million to awesome causes like supporting disadvantaged Victorians, children's health, food rescue and environmental responsibility.

But we want to do more. We want to increase our support of First Nations-led organisations and causes and step up our sustainability game even more.

  • Develop and deliver an accessibility action plan

We want to create a welcoming and accessible place for people with disabilities.

As many as 17% of Victorians and a billion people worldwide have some kind of disability, and we want to make sure they not only feel included, but they are included. So, we've put together an Accessibility Action Plan (AAP) to make sure things are better in 2024 and beyond.

Our focus is on providing people with disabilities job opportunities and security, and making our spaces, products and services easier for them to use.

What success looks like

We all deserve to be treated with respect and given equal opportunities at work, no matter who we are. And it's not just about what we're entitled to, it's about creating a workplace where everyone feels welcomed and valued for their unique perspectives and backgrounds. We all need to do our part for fairness and diversity.
