Go Girl Women in Tech Event

Senior Manager of Technology Services, Isabelle Kluger was one of our most recent employees who volunteered her time at the recent event Go Girl.

Go Girl is a program run by Vic ICT for Women, to encourage schoolgirls to choose careers in technology and takes place every second year at Deakin University in Burwood.

The event was held on Thursday 16 August and hosted over 2000 schoolgirls from around Victoria.

Each school offers a tailor-made program, with a mix of presentations and a trade show, where students interact with staff from sponsoring organisations, and participate in a range of activities, from using VR headsets to 3D printing and robot races.

Volunteers like Isabelle were responsible for many different tasks, from ferrying girls to venues, conducting surveys or packing and distributing showbags.

For Isabelle, it was a fantastic way to see how the Go Girl day runs, see where MCEC might be able to get involved in it as an organisation, and have a presence at the next Go Girl event.

“This is all a part of the work I’m doing to try to encourage more women to consider a career in the AV industry,” said Isabelle.

“I had a blast on the day, and I’m thrilled by the opportunity I think we have to work on this event, to get girls thinking about careers in AV, which is a fairly niche and otherwise unseen industry - but in which there are some very exciting opportunities."

The program for the day included a keynote speech, workshops, presentations and a larger Careers expo which included Deloitte, Seek, ANZ, Transpire, Geek Girl Academy, PWC, Toyota and the Resource Group.
