| Professor David de Kretser AC honoured at prestigious dinner
The MCEC's 5000+ seated plenary was transformed into an intimate dinner setting for over 300 distinguished guests on Wednesday 23 March to farewell the, then, Governor of Victoria, Professor David de Kretser.
Throughout the evening his contributions to Melbourne and Victoria were recognised by the business events community, leaders in government, scientific, academic and research sectors, corporate partners and his wife Jan de Krester.
Guests were treated to an exclusive sneak preview of ‘Love Never Dies', the hottest new musical to visit Melbourne in May, with the ‘Phantom', Ben Lewis, performing ‘Till I hear you sing' from the show.
Professor de Kretser ended his term as Governor of Victoria on the 7 April and is returning to a distinguished medical research career.
The evening was hosted by the Club Melbourne Ambassadors Program and ICT for Life Sciences Forum.

| A Taste of Harmony at the MCEC
MCEC staff celebrated workplace diversity during the annual Taste of Harmony week in March.
Family recipes from all over the globe were submitted by staff and then served up as two daily lunch specials at the staff café from 21 - 27 March 2011.
By the end of the week MCEC staff had tasted 15 dishes from different nationalities!
Popular dishes included Indonesian chicken satay and gado gado salad, Serbian sarma and Korean ginger punch.

| Free public lecture by vision science expert Be quick and register now for the 2011 H Barry Collin Public Research Medal lecture where Professor Jack Pettigrew FRS will present ‘Exploring the visual systems of monks and extinct Bradshaw Rock artists'.
Professor Pettigrew is the Emeritus Professor of Physiology and Director of the Vision, Touch and Hearing Research Centre at the University of Queensland, Australia. He has published on topics from the cat striate cortex to algorithms for stereopsis; the evolution of echolocation in bats; and sleep in the platypus.
The H Barry Collin Lecture will be held on Monday May 16 from 3.00 - 3.55pm in the plenary of the Melbourne Convention Centre.

| Congratulations Natalie DodsonDuring the first weekend of April over 700 teams took part in the Oxfam TRAILWALKER Melbourne to raise funds to help overcome poverty and injustice around the world.
Teams started the 100 kilometre endurance walk at Jells Park in Wheelers Hill, walking all day and overnight, and finished in Wesburn Park in the Yarra Valley - all within 48 hours.
Business development administrative assistant Natalie Dodson and her team ‘The B Sharps' took up the challenge and tackled the Australian bush, reaching the finish line within 24 hours and 26 minutes!
The Oxfam TRAILWALKER Melbourne raised over $2.6 million to date and we are extremely proud of Natalie's contribution to this figure. |
